A few weeks ago, I posted a video from the World Health Organization presenting Depression as a “black dog” that we live with, ways to recognize the diagnosis, and ways to cope. This follow up video is a great guide for people living with depression as well as their loved ones and caregivers.
I love that the WHO made a video for how to support people living with depression as I oftentimes have loved ones feeling so confused about how to help. Caregivers put so much pressure on themselves to save or heal their loved ones and it is so important for them to know their role in this journey. Their role is not to fix problems or cheerlead, it is to be supportive and encouraging while maintaining healthy boundaries for themselves. This video is such a great starting point for helping both people living with depression and their loved ones. Resources like therapy are a great next step to not only survive depression but truly thrive.
